WELLFIT

The WELLFIT Program is an active rehabilitation protocol designed specifically for cancer patients. Research shows that specific active rehabilitation is one of the most powerful tools in the healing process from cancer and the symptoms associated with cancer treatment. The WELLFIT Program is based on medical research with task specific protocols. This program is only offered by Independent Mobile Assessment Centre.

How WELLFIT works

The WELLFIT Program is designed for patients who are currently receiving adjuvant treatment or have completed surgical, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy treatment. The patient benefits are numerous both physiologically and psychologically. The WELLFIT Program is designed to decrease symptoms of weakness, fatigue, and nausea, and to rebuild strength, improve range of motion, and increase cardio-vascular endurance. This type of program has also been shown to decrease depressive symptoms, feelings of isolation, and bring about feelings of hope and a sense of belonging.

WELLFIT Cancer Exercise Specialists

The WELLFIT facility at Independent Mobile Assessment Centre is only open to cancer patients. As a specialized group, cancer patients have specific and specialized needs that regular therapy and a regular facility don't provide.

As a specialized group with specific needs, therapists working with cancer patients through both assessment and active treatment need advanced training to understand the disease process itself, types of treatment such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, symptoms associated with treatments, and physiological responses to both the disease and treatment. Independent Mobile Assessment Centre ensures that their therapists meet the standards of Cancer Exercise Specialists through education and training.

The WELLFIT Facility

Independent Mobile Assessment Centre is the only facility offering the WELLFIT Program. We have ensured that our facility meets stringent standards required when working with cancer patients. Public gyms may place cancer patients at risk with contaminants, bacteria, and viruses. Understanding the health risks for cancer patients allows us to set the highest standards and commit to maintaining these standards necessary for the health and well being of our patients.

The Toronto Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Centre (TSRCC) is known for its provision of outstanding patient care for those diagnosed with cancer. TSRCC is a world leader in both patient treatment and cancer research. Independent Mobile Assessment Centre is very proud that TSRCC has approved The WELLFIT Program as treatment for TSRCC cancer patients. As well, TSRCC Program Council has approved the development of a partnership with Independent Mobile Assessment Centre for continued research efforts and treatment of cancer patients through The WELLFIT Program.
